First if you are licensed in Colorado as it appears the effect you have will be negligible. It is very unlikely that you will have any transfer of points or problems from New York to Colorado.

Second, the maximum speed limit in New York State is 55 unless otherwise posted and the maximum it will be over is 65 mph. 81 in a 50 is an 8 point speed. You should consider contacting an attorney in the Albany area and finding out if the allow plea bargaining in that area or if you will need someone to take it to trial. The fine will be stiff for a speed that high.

Third, do not default on this ticket. If you do, your driving privileges will be suspended. When that happens, New York State will place that on a data base that will be accessed by Colorado and every other state and your license will eventually be suspended in Colorado.

Pleading not guilty and requesting a hearing is always recommended. The driver can benefit by having a hearing. More often, however, the ticket can be resolved through the mail with minimal time on your part. Hiring an experienced traffic attorney in the area that understands the use of radar, its accuracy, and the certifications required to use it properly is vital to not only trying to win, but to keep your insurance premiums lower for years to come. Paying a little today may save you two or three times in the future.

Our firm is in the Albany area and handles these types of issues every day. We would be happy to help. I would need to review the ticket and see what can be done. Please contact my firm and I would be happy to assist.

I don't have the specifics from the ticket,so I can only make general observations. First answer the ticket, failure to do so will result in your license being suspended. The states have reciprocity compacts. Travelling 31MPH over in N.Y.is excess speed, this is somewhat serious. I generally am successful in plea bargaining these situations. Please contact my office @7188340087 for a free phone consultation. I can help you.
