Legal Question in Traffic Law in New York

18 year old son and Traffic Violations

I have an 18 year old son who has had numerous violations. His latest is the most severe. He was ticketed for reckless driving, unsafe lane change and leaving the scene. I believe that at least one of these is a misdomeaner. he is a very rebelous and insists he doesn't need my help. But I think he is going to need an attorney either way.

Can someone please advise me on this?

Yes, your son definitely needs legal counsel. Reckless driving is a misdemeanor and leaving the scene of an accident involving person injury is as well. He is also looking at a lot of points. Feel free to see my web site for a lot of valuable information. www.nytrafficticket.com. Or call me for a free consultation. Thanks Matt

The bottom line is that you are correct...but now, my own two cents: if your son will not listen to you, it is okay for a parent to let their child fall down and pick themselves up...sometimes this teaches the lesson that they will not learn from you.

Best of Luck

Your son does need an attorney. He is facing at least one misdemeanor and based upon your posting, he will most likely be brought up on other charges as well as a DMV safety hearing. This could mean loss of his license for a long period of time.

As for his rebellious attitude, you may want to let him swim or sink on his own this time. Some 18 year olds need to be shown the real world and you keep any help for when he finally asks for it. (just my opinion, take it for what its worth.)

Reckless driving is a misdemeanor and as such your son,if convicted would have a criminal record and 5 points on his drivers license. The other charges while not criminal may result in loss of drivers license. I am a former Traffic Court Judge ,who handles cases such as these on a regular basis. I can help your son.
