Legal Question in Traffic Law in New York
When I began entering an HOV lane in Nassau County, I was at the right lane of the two HOV lanes. There was no car in front of me. The divider between the two lanes was a solid-dashed line which is dashed at my side. There was no sign of lanes merging or left turn arrow in my lane. Then within a few seconds the dividing line disappeared and I saw hatched area gradually bump out from the right into my lane. (Two lanes became a single HOV lane). At that moment I was in a high speed and there was another car at the left HOV lane behind me. So I accelerated and gradually (to make sure clear from the following car in the left) went to the left running over the hatched area. I didn't cross over to the right side of the hatched area. (hatch area = the area in between two solid lines filled with hatch lines). I got the following 4 tickets:
1. Speeding at 78 mph in 55 mph zone
2. Following too closely
3. Unsafe lane change
4. Crossing Hazardous marking
My questions are:
a. Did I follow too closely?
b. Did I change lane?
c. Did I need to show left signal?
d. Did I cross over double solid line?
e. Did I cross hazardous marking?
