Legal Question in Traffic Law in New York
My car registration has been suspended for a lapse in insurance, I am now fully insured, is there anyway not to have to turn in my plates for the length of time DMV has given me. I have to travel back and forth to another state for a sick sister and I need my car.

I am afraid not. A lapse of insurance will in most cases be accompanied by a suspension of your registration and will require you to turn in your plates for a period of time. This is usually two days for every day you did not have insurance but this might have changed. You might try to appeal the decision to the Commissioner of the Department of Motor Vehicles but in the time it takes to get an answer your suspension might be over.
