Legal Question in Traffic Law in New York

I am from Connecticut and I was driving back from the airport when I was caught speeding in NYC. He says I was doing 75 in a 50 posted zone, but I know for sure it was 68 even though I'm not familiar with the area I received the ticket and was truthful by stating to the officer I did not know the speed limit. He also gave me a ticket for following too closely 2 minutes after my speeding violation, but I was given 2 separate tickets at the time I was pulled over. I am not familiar with NYC laws and how the traffic violations effect my record. This is my first traffic violation ever. I was wondering how I could lessen the charges on my violations? How does this effect me, being a CT driver? Also what is the best way to solve this issue?
