does the speed limit need to be posted for construction zones

Yes, definitely. If no speed signs (and/ or work zone signs) were posted. I recommend that you take photos of the stretch of roadway where you got the ticket. Yes. If there is no speed limit posted, then the regular speed on the highway in question is the limit unless driving conditions make going that fast imprudent.
