Legal Question in Traffic Law in New York

I want to know if contacting the district attorney about my case would be helpful or even worth trying. I was given a ticket for speeding 4 hours outside of Boston (where I currently live) and was told it was very easy to just show up to court and get my sentence reduced. Well I went back to that town for my court date, but it was cancelled because of flooding and no one notified me. So I was told to come back a week later and I did, to find that no district attorney was not there and I would have to come back in two weeks if I wanted my sentence reduced. So 16 hours of driving later, and I'm hoping there's a way to call the DA directly and get my sentence reduced that way, instead of driving another 8 hours where I may or may not be able to settle this issue. Is this possible at all??

It's not clear whether your case is in Massachusetts or New York. Each jurisdiction in NY can be different in that sometimes the police officer handles the matter and other times there is an ADA. To anser your question, it can't hurt to contact the ADA and if nothing else, you can ask if someone will be in court the day you are next scheduled. You can try to negotiate the ticket down, but the ADA might not want to do that without the police officer there.

Good luck!
