Legal Question in Traffic Law in New York

Hello. I declined an offer to reduce a stop sign ticket to a parking ticket. Now I am scheduled for a trial soon.

Since then, I've learned my auto insurance discount for safe driving will be cancelled if I am found guilty. Not to mention that I've been advised that it would be my word vs. the patrolman - and that the judge would likely favor the patrolman. I have a clean license.

The fine for the parking ticket is a 'deal' compared to the long term impact a guilty charge/points would have on my insurance.

Must I proceed with the trial? - Is there any way to back up and accept the parking ticket? ~ Thanks for your insight and advice.

From my experience, you still may be able to take a plea and have the ticket reduced if you act quickly. More often than not, the ticket can be resolved through the mail with minimal time on your part. Hiring an experienced traffic attorney in the area that understands the the legal process in traffic court is vital to not only trying to win, but to keep your insurance premiums lower for years to come. Paying a little today may save you two or three times in the future.

Our firm is in the Albany area and handles these types of issues every day. We would be happy to help. I would need to review the ticket and see what can be done. Please contact my firm and I would be happy to assist.
