Legal Question in Traffic Law in New York
Driving without a license
I had a ticket a few years ago that was never paid for one reason or another, although I thought that it had been. I haven't been living with my parents since then and hadn't received any notification that my license had been suspended. I was pulled over a few weeks ago and given a ticket for driving without a license. I have 2 questions.
1. If I pay the original ticket and the suspention termination fee, do I then have a drivers license again, or does it remain suspended because I was caught driving without one?
2. What is the typical penalty for driving without a license?

Re: Driving without a license
If you pay the ticket and clear the suspension, then your license will be good, except if it already expired. Check to make sure that your license has not yet expired. Or (even better) check with DMV when you pay these items to make sure. Penalty for driving without a license is a fine of about $150. However, make sure this charge is not aggravated unlicensed. If so, this is a misdemeanor (criminal charge) and, in such event, you should retain an attorney. Feel free to contact me if you have any further questions. Matthew Weiss, Esq www.nytrafficticket.com
Re: Driving without a license
You should clear up all suspensions before appearing in court for your vtl 509 or vtl 511 charge, it will make plea bargaining easier. Inasmuch as I do not know what actual charge you are facing ,I can not evaluate the consequences. I will be happy to offer you a free phone consultation . You may call my office @7188340087 to accomplish this.
