Legal Question in Traffic Law in New York

no insurance but in car accident

I was recently in a motor vehicle accident in which I crashed into the rear of the vehicle merging onto an expressway and I don't have any motor vehicle insurance. My insurance has been lapsed for several months but I still continue to drive my vehicle anyway. Now I'm in a real dilemma and don't know what to do about this situation. I don't want to go to jail and I need my driver's license to to drive to and from work because I live upstate new york and I work in queens new york. Can you offer me any suggestions? I assure you anything positive willgreatly be appreciated.

Thankyou,

desperate one

Re: no insurance but in car accident

You can probably avoid jail on this offense, but you will have to pay resitution to the person you hit.
