Lien on Title

I bought a car in new york from an individual, who signed over his title to me. Turned this over to the DMV for registration and plates. I later got another copy sent to me with my name and address. Now the new title has Lien on it by chase bank, and now, i need to change my tags to geogia since i moved over there but cannot untill the lien is released. How do i go about this situation.

It can be considered a fraud if the original owner did not tell you about the lien on the car.

You would have to commence an action against the original owner to compensate you for the monies owed on the lien.

The bank had no knowledge about the lien, and cannot be held responsible for what another individual did. The bank certainly has no obligation to release the lien.

Since you moved out of state, you would have to re regrister the car in Georgia.
