Legal Question in Traffic Law in New York
I received a "failure to obey a traffic device" ticket c couple weeks ago. I mailed in a plea of not guilty. Just yesterday I got a letter from the court stating that the charge had been reduced to a parking charge (which means instead of getting 2 points off my license I get none, which is really good for me!). Now I have to send this letter back either pleading guilty or not guilty. I think I should plead guilty and just pay the fine, but I wanted to get some legal advice first. Can you help me out?

It sounds like you were charged with a VTL 1110 which was reduced to VTL 1201. As you know, there are no points for the 1201 and the fine is also less. Of course, the decision is yours, but if you were in the area and your license and description of vehicle are correct, there is little down side to pleading guilty to the parking ticket. Fighting it probably would be a waste of time (and money if you hire a lawyer) unless you have some defense.
Good luck.
