Legal Question in Traffic Law in New York

Speed in zone

In my hometown in Upstate Ny, I was leaving a zone posted 30mph. I was within 500' and clear sight of the 55mph sign. I was traveling 35mph up to the point that I was in clear sight of the sign. That is when I accelerated. I was written a ticket for speeding in a 30mph zone. I am unclear on the law. Can you legally begin accelerating prior to the sign? What is section in the code dictating this?

The last sign you pass controls. You do have a mitigating argument which may result in a good plea bargain. You may contact my office@7188340087 for a free phone consultation.
