Legal Question in Traffic Law in New York
I got a Speeding Ticket over the weekend in the Bronx. It was an 1180D for going 73 in a 50. I am wondering what my best course of action is here as I live two hours away in CT close to the RI border. I understand that pleading guilty is not the way to go as that carries six points l, driver assessment course and all the fines. But I also don't see it reasonable to plead not guilty as I would have to take a day off from work to drive to NY and back to maybe not have the ticket reduced at all. I am wondering of hiring an attorney is the best option and if so does anyone know a reasonably priced one as I am a father to two girls so I don't have a ton of disposable income.

There are an abundance of traffic court attorneys, that handle these matters @ reasonable rates. There are some that hang around the court & charge much less due to their presence there already. There are others that do volume work,. You can perhaps get a reduction or even a not guilty result, but the most important advice I can offer is that you will get what you pay for. A good ,completely competent attorney will charge more. You may contact my office for more info.
This is an 6-point ticket that carries roughly a $200 fine plus a $300 Driver Assessment Fee. It can also adversely affect your insurance rates and even result in a suspension. We, therefore, highly recommend that you plead not guilty and fight this ticket. This is the only possible way to save points, money and avoid an insurance increase (assuming you have an otherwise clean record).
I actually think you have a good chance to save a few points and the $300 Driver Assessment Fee. Feel free to call us to discuss further. The consultation is free.
