Legal Question in Traffic Law in New York

suspened insurance - suspended reg & license didn't know until stopped

I was stopped by the police and was told I had suspended insurance, license, and registration. Went to DMV next day. Something was up with the insurance carrier. I switched carriers and moved in a short period of time. I've been late making payments. Something from the first carrier got lost in the mail resulting in all this happening. I have a court date. Should I have an attorney present at the court? I tend to be to honest and it does not result in my favor. I talked with the insurance agent and she told me the first carrier will correct the mistake on the DMV website. I still have to and intend pay a $200 fine to DMV having to do with the registration.

I think an attorney would be helpful if you were arrested or if your case is returnable in a local criminal court. In those jurisdictions there is a possibility of plea bargaining. In order to offer more specific advice I need to have more information. You may call my office @ 718-834-0087 for A free phone consultation.
