Legal Question in Traffic Law in New York

Wrong Speed Zone on Ticket

I got a ticket for doing 54 in a 40 MPH zone. This is how the physical ticket was written. BUT, the posted speed limit was 45. There was even a sign with the 45 MPH speed limit right in front of where the cop was sitting. There are also 6 45MPH signs on the road whithin 2 miles around where the cop was sitting. Is this wrong info a valid reason to get this ticket thrown out? Is this something I can do myself or should I hire an lawyer?

Re: Wrong Speed Zone on Ticket

Even presupposing what you say is correct ie. the sign said 45 mph you admit to traveling at 54 mph. therefore you did exceed the speed limit. There may however be a plea bargain possibility, depending upon where the ticket was issued. If you would like to discuss the possibility call my office @718-834-0087and I will be glad to advise you.
