Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

Beneficiary's right to information about a will in probate

My friend knows she is a beneficiary in a will of an older woman who died a few months ago. To the best of our knowledge, the will is in probate. However, although we have wreitten to the executor a few times requesting information about the status of the will, the executor does not respond at all. What are our rights to information about the will? Are we entitled to get a copy of the will? Can we at least find out about her particular bequest? What is required of the executor in relation to a beneficiary? Who doe we contact to make sure this woman gets what has been willed to her?

Thank you.

If your friend was named in the will, she should have received notice of the wills probate. She should consult with an attorney.
