Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

As the court appointed executor could I request bank statements back to May '05 to see how much my mothers house went for and where and how her money was spent ? Would I need a letter from a lawyer? My mom dies in '12. Thank You for your time.

As the Executor you have this right. It might cost a little to have the bank reprint them, so see if you can create this online and get them for free.
