Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

my dad has a house in his name only. If he dies will my mom have to pay an inheritance tax? we live in NY.

Possibly, depending upon the gross value of all assets comprising his estate. Why does Dad not want to put her name on the Deed now, or do other possible planning that may reduce or even eliminate the possible tax? I suggest taking Dad and Mom to a good estate attorney to review the situation.
