Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

Estate Administrator responsibilities

I was adopted. My natural father's uncle passed away. My natural father's brother is now the estate administrator.

Does the administrator have to give me half of the value of the estate? Can he keep it all for himself?

Re: Estate Administrator responsibilities

In many states the adoption probably terminated your rights of inheritance from your natural father, as he would have had to terminate his parental rights as part of the proceeding. If this took place, unless he mentioned you in his Will, you have no rights. You should verify if this is the case under NY law, by calling the Surrogate's office and raising the question.
