Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

Estate legal matter

In my father-in-lwas estate he left his home and its house-hold furnishings to a friend. Can someone specify what house-hold furnishings are. Tools, lawn mowers etc or just items like a couch, or T.V?

Re: Estate legal matter

This is a broad category, with no true definition. It would normally be limited to things like furniture, linens, artwork, china, flatware, utensils, rugs, drapes, etc. Black's Law Dictionary defines the concept as being anything around the house that has been usually enjoyed therewith necessary for housekeeping. Lawn furniture, gardening tools and the like might not be included.
