Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York
I am the executor of my father's estate and his lawyer is handling it. Because of some family conflict, this estate has taken a number of years. However, now that things are moving along, it has been very difficult to get the lawyer to respond to calls or letters, and when I do speak with him, he tells me that he will do something that does not get done. He is older and has been practicing (small practice - just he and his secretary) for many years. What can I do, without antagonizing him, to get him to move quicker?

You should make a list of things that you want done and when you are to have them done. Schedule an in person meeting with the lawyer and review the list. If the lawyer can't or won't, then it may be time to shop for a new lawyer to take over.
