Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York
As executor do I need a notarized receipt for small items such as pictures and inexpensive jewelry that are specifically mentioned in a will that will be probated in New York.

You should obtain a signed "receipt and release" from each beneficiary that receives estate assets. This will provide evidence that they received the items to which they are entitled, and it will release you from any liability.
