Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

My father died a few months ago in Ohio. My half-sister and I do not reside in Ohio. Our father was not married at the time of his death and we are his only surviving children. We were both estranged from our father. Since I recently received several documents (waivers, inventory/appraisals, etc) from our aunt's (our father's sister) attorney concerning the probate of our father's estate I am assuming that a will has not been located...our father suffered from dementia for several years prior to his death. I guess two of my first questions are do you advise us to seek legal counsel in Ohio or our respective states? Also, are there any critical time deadlines for completing or filing paperwork that need to be met?

Thank you

Retain counsel in Ohio. What are they asking you to waive? Do not assume there is no will.
