Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York
My father died about 12 years ago, and recently my mother told me she never had his name removed from the deed to her (their) home, which is in Onondaga County, NY. Is it necessary or advisable to do this? She has no immediate plans to sell the property.

While not necessary, it is advisable to do it anyway, as this will make a future sale much easier, whether taking place during your mother's lifetime or afterwards. This is relatively easy to do and with recording fees should run about $200.00 or so. It just provides a simpler, easier way for a title company conducting a search whenever the property is sold to know what has taken place over the years.
