Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York
my father gave us kids most of his money. We want to write a note saying that if he every needs the money for a nursing home we will chip in our share of expenses from said money even if some of us spent it and now have to take out a mortgage. Do we need a lawyer to do this or can we just type it up, sign it and get it notarized?

A simple letter to Dad acknowledging that he gave you money and if he should ever need it, you will give it back/repay it, dated, signed and notarized should do it. You realize that if he intended it to be gift, you are not required to repay it.
