Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

My father in law has brain cancer. Last week he went to the lawyer and put his girlfriend in the will stating that upon his passing my husband (an only child) has to pay her 1300.00 a month for the rest of her life unless she gets remarried. He also left her his car and a computer. Now he was diagnosed with cancer in July of 2010 and just did this last week. But a couple of years ago he put her on an insurance policy for 50,000.00. My question is can we contest the will that was just change and if we do, do we have a chance of beating it and how long could it take? I know three questions there. But I am not sure if we have a legal leg to stand on here. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Theresa
