Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

My father left me a $50,000 life insurance policy of which I used $10,000 in order to cover his funeral costs. At that time we had not yet found the will. Once we found the will, it stated " I direct the expenses of my last illness and funeral....shall be paid out of my residuary estate, without apportionment and with no right of reimbursement from any recipient of any such property". He has a bank account with $23,356.00. Should $10,ooo be given back to me or is the life insurance policy considered "residuary estate"? The bank account did not have a second name or beneficiary. And I am not the executrix.
