Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

When my father-in-law passed away, he left a monetary insurance for his 5 sons, do all parties have to be present for the distribution of his estate, or in lieu of being present, is there a form to be signed, with disclosure of accepting of this will or renegating?

No, because insurance is typically not a probate asset, the beneficiaries of the policy just need to fill out their individual claim forms. They don't need to be present anywhere, and most places encourage you to mail the forms to the insurance company.
