Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York
finding out if children are in a will
A neighbor we were close to died a few months ago. She really enjoyed playing with my children - kind of an elderly aunt. I was recently told that my children were listed in her will - but we were never notified of this. How do I go about finding out whether they were listed and what the they would have recieved if they were included? We were not on good terms with the other relatives.

If you cannot go to the Surogate's Office, you can call them and for a small fee they can mail you a copy of the Will.

Go to the Surrogate court in the County where she lived and ask to see the will. It is a public record.
