Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

My grandmother recently went into an assisted living facility. Nothing was done to safeguard her home and property. Is there anything that we can do now to protect her home, which has been in the family for 220 years? I fear that her home will eventually be taken away when her money runs out.

Your grandmother can Deed it to family members who are willing to preserve it. However, if she did this by gift rather than by sale, it might have ramifications down the road if she needed money to exist (Mediciad ramifications). The family should getr together and decide on what they want to do and then consult an elder law attorney to get suggestions on how the transfer of ownership might be best accomplished, both to protect grandma's needs (now or future), plus preserve the property for the family (how its upkeep billls are going to be paid).
