Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York
Greetings
A friend recently passed away. In his garage I was storing several boxes of important items which were documented in emails to me as being placed there. Unfortunately the relatives are not allowing access to the garage and refusing my letters for access. I have offered Fedex Pickup and to conveniently schedule time with them to do the pickup either myself or fedex. I do not wish to break and enter and according to what I have read, I need to get a small claims action against the relatives or the deceased's estate. I am currently in California, the property is in NY State.
Can some one advise me on who to file the small claims action against, potentially get a lien so they cant sell the house without dealing with my property or compensating me and how to do this without running up heaps of travel expenses flying coast to coast.
Your advise is most appreciated

You must file a claim in the estate probate proceeding.
