Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York
I am heriting a house in NY from my grandparents. I don't know much about what fees I have to pay and the proceedings. My grandparents lawyer is charging me a 4% of what the house is worth to process the paperwork. I am not the only person in the will there are 4 other people listed in the will. Am I able to get a copy for myself and should I get my own Trust and Estate lawyer to file my paperwork?
1 Answer from Attorneys
The lawyer for the Executor (the person named in the will as the estate representative) collects his fee from the estate. It is generally 3%. The only work involved inn transfering the title of your grandparent's house is to prepare an Executor's Deed, which you can file yourself, or hire your own attorney to do so for under $1,000.
