Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

My lawyer

I am a widow since 3/7/07. I know I am entitled to $50,000 as my husband wa s a NY State resident . I also had a pre nup. My lawyer is in N. SYracuse and has not contacted me since Dec.o7. I have called numerous times and sent him certified letters with no response other than his signature. I would assume he is still working for me because I have not received a bill. He is semi retired and I have signed to pay hourly. Before Dec. he always contacted me. What could have happened? I would like to find another lawyer in that area. How do I go about this? Can the attorney from my husband close the file without payment to me? Thank You!

I need to know more information. Is there a proceeding in Surrogate's court? What has your lawyer done so far?
