letters of administration

my son is in prison and his father has past away. the father's wife has asked my son, and only biologic son that the father have to sign a consent to appoint of administration. My question is how can i find out if their is will and do i need a lawyer

If request was made to son for decedent's wife to be the administrator, there probably is no will.

Under NY Intestacy (no will) laws, $50,000 and 1/2 of estate goes to the spouse and remainder goes to the child.
