Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

Metlife insurance has sent me a bill for an extra annuity payment they sent to my mother after she died in May,2008.It was direct deposited into her checking account 3 weeks after she died.I was the executor for her estate which was cashed out completely in 2009.House was sold, all accounts disbursed among 3 surviving children. My father had died 4 yrs. earlier. They were promptly told she had died May 2nd and their payment had already been processed.Am I legally obligated to pay

them this extra payment they sent to my mother? Who is responsible for paying this back? It was sent to my mother, not to me.

Yes but you were the Executor, and responsible to pay debts of her estate before distributing the remaining assets. Ask your siblings for a contribution of their share and pay the insurance company. If they bring suit, it may cost you a whole lot more.
