Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

mom's estate

Mom passed in september 2006, upon her death, the will became ''missing'' . The will was drawn up February 29, 2000. I called requesting a copy and was advised by the lawyer that the records are purged every 7 years, therefore we do not have a copy, which is causing problems with the family. Any advise would be helpful. thank you

You cannot probate a copy of a will. Therefore, if a will does not exist you should proceed with administration proceeding.
