Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

my mother 90 was left as sole benificiary and executrix of her friend of 40 years who was in mid 80's.

The estate is only about 60,000 and the lawyers I spoke to told me if I hired them there would be nothing left after tax's etc.

I have done all the work and after building family tree's and several months work cannot find any living family members. what do I do now?

Depending on the language of the Will, if the beneficiary predeceased your mother, you are probably heir to the estate. If so, you need to apply for Letters of Administration, CTA for yourself.

I can't provide a more complete answer without examining the details of the Will.

This is considered a Small Estate and entitled to a expedited procedure. Speak with the Court Clerk. I disagree with your cost analysis and do not see why you cannot retain counsel. Good luck.
