Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York
my mother made a will in the U.S. but has no assets here. She has a house in Trinidad and Tobago. Could the will be probated in Trinidad and not the U.S.

That's a great question and one which is better answered by a lawyer from Trinidad. Assuming your mother died here in New York, my guess is the will would be probated here in New York (which is usually the rule: a will gets submitted for probate in the county where the decedent lived when she died), and then 'ancillary probate' completed in Trinidad. Either way it's a mess. However sometimes with real estate the property can be transferred to the heirs and the will does not need to be probated. That's what we do here in NY; I don't know how it's done in Trinidad.
