If your father has passed away, then you can expect the will to be presented for probate. You will thus receive notice of the probate proceeding and a copy of the will from the person who offers the will for probate. If there is any delay in your receiving that notification, but if the will has already been submitted to the court for probate, you can requisition a copy of the will at the Surrogate's Court for the county in which your father resided.
Good luck to you.
I agree with Mike. If you need to contact the Surrogate to get a copy, the cost for a copy is minimal. Of course, in order to probate a Will, there must be assets the Will covers. This is limited to assets registered in your father's name alone, and a Will does not cover assets registered jointly with someone who has survived your father, or assets with a named beneficiary like POD accounts, life insurance, retirement plans, etc.
