Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

opening a small estate account

I have to close out a checking account and open a small estate account. The bank told me I need an estate identification number. Where and how do I do this?

Re: opening a small estate account

It sounds like they are referring to a "taxpayer identification number." If so, go to the IRS website IRS.gov and look for a form "SS-4."

Read the instructions and complete the form. You will receive an id number instantly once all the required information has been entered on the form.

IT IS THE TAX REPORTING NUMBER (SIMILAR TO A SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER) USED FOR ENTITIES OTHER THAN INDIVIDUALS. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN BY JOHN, TO COMPLETE THE APPLICATION ON-LINE, AT THE IRS WEB SITE, AND GET YOUR NUMBER. PRINT OUT THE COMPLETED FORMS AND TAKE THEM TO THE BANK TO OPEN THE ACCOUNT.
