Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York
Power of attorney
My mother, while very ill, appointed my sister power of attorney, approximately 4 years ago, and it was kept a secret. My mother has since passed away, is there any legal ground to fight for any of her assets that were left? If so, what type of lawyer would I need?

Re: Power of attorney
A power of attorney dies with the person who granted the power of attorney.
You should look for an attorney who deals with estate litigation.
Re: Power of attorney
The power of attorney your mother gave to your sister ended with mother's death.
It is impossible to know if you are entitled to any of your mother's estate without knowing if your mother died with a will or intestate (without a will); and if she died with a will, are you a beneficiary?
I strongly suggest you contact the Bar Association in your state (they probably have a website you can access) and ask for a reference for an attorney in your city/town that concentrates in wills & probate.
Good luck.
