Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

Power of Attorney - New York State

My elderly mother is a resident of the Bronx, New york. She is suffering from Congenital Heart Failure and may pass away soon. She has no fixed assets. She is currently in the hospital and wants me to handle her financial affairs; write checks, pay bills and disburse her personal effects among her other children should she pass away. I need a Power of Attorney for sure in order to handle her banking and other affairs. Pleased tell me where I can get the appropriate forms and if there is anything else I need in have or do in this situation.

I agree with Mike that a form can be purchased on this web site, or a simple version can also be purchased at any business stationary store like Staples, Office Depot, etc. However, I caution that a simple form may not be adequate, or contain all provisions you might like to have or need. I have a form that I can send on line, with instructions, that covers almost every type of situation you may confront. It is comprehensive and we discuss this if you contact me directly. Note that these forms do not cover health care situations and a proper Health Care Directive (Living Will) might also be needed.
