Probate Court?
My Father passed away recently without a will, in NYC, what steps should his grown children take to get the real estate property in their name? Their parents were divorced many years ago.

Someone will need to initiate an administration proceeding in Surrogate's court of the county which was his last residence.

If all of the heirs are willing to sign a deed, the property may be transferred without the necessity of going through Surrogate's Court.

If the real property was his sole asset then you can simply change the deed by-passing an Administration proceeding for a modest fee.
