Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

probate

First I am in the UK and have for some months explored many sites for answers. My brother died in New York 7 years ago who I believe left a will. Is there a web site that I can go to, to find out details of that will ? is such information available to the public. Many thank in anticipation. Dianne

Re: probate

Every state (all 50) in the united states has its own probate/surrogate court system. for new york, try the unified court system of new york.

Dianne:

In NY, wills are open for public inspection. However I know of no web sites that publish the contents of a will. If you know the county that your brother resided in when he passed, you could call that Surrogate Court and ask what arrangements could be made for you to recv a copy OR you could hire someone to go to that court and make a copy of the will to send to you. (On the slim chance that the county is Westchester, I will be at the Westchester Surrogate Court on Monday 5/19).
