my colleague Leanna Hamill has a great answer to this question:

Even though she is not a NY attorney, her advice works just as well in New York.

Not having seen the document, I do not5 know if it contains language on what procedure is to be used. In the absence of a procedure contained in the document, this is usually done by sending the POA a written letter of discharge, by regular and certified mail, return receipt requested. I also suggest that any person, firm, institution, etc., told about the POA or to whom copies have been sent also be notified of the discharge, mailed the same way. If you are designating a replacemen, everyone should be notifi9ed of the replacement also. This is a reply to an Internet question and the response is not intended to be legal advice or as creating an attorney-client rerlationship.
