NY law allows anyone to appoint and designate a health care proxy and the operating person under a Living Will, if the proper documents are in writing, properly signed and executed. It is not automatic for a fiance, but a fiance can be designated as the operative person. Appropriate forms are available for free at the NY Bar Assication web site. This is a response to an Internet question and the reply is not intended to be legal advice or as creating an attorney-client relationship.
