my rights

I was named executrix for my step dads estate. My step brother took all albums and loose pictures of photographs with telling me he would return them by janurary this year. It is now august and I am getting the run around. Is there anything that I can do in order to get them back he has every single picture of my mother and my family which has nothing to do with him. The estate is not settled and I haven't given him his inheritance as of yet. Can I hold that until he gives me the pictures back so I can distribute them accordingly? thankyou......

As executor you can demand the return of the personal property. I suggest sending him a letter to this effect by certified mail, return receipt requested. If he refuses, tell him the costs of reproduction will be assessed against his share of the estate. Hopefully this will help you. If you have an attorney for the estate, let him write the letter.
