It's a good question but the answer is not so simple. Generally you would not be personally responsible; however your husband's estate might be. And if your husbands state pays off the bill that's the same as the money coming out of your pocket Anyway. The answer also make depend on the type of loan that are you talking about: outstanding credit cards or cell phone bill, or a mortgage or bank loan or personal loan your husband may have obtained? And even where you're not responsible for the debt, that doesn't mean a debt collector won't be hounding you with letters and phone calls for months or years.
