Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

please help i dont know where else to turn

My father passed away in 2004 he was maried to my step mother that just passed away this year in may 2007 My father has 5 children including one with my step mother. My stepmother has 2 other children that is not by my father. My father didnt have a will but he had property and assets in his name I went to the court house to see if the property was in my step mothers name and none of it every was. Here children took over all the property rented out the house and sold his cars they wont talk to my fathers biological kids to let us know whats going on can you please help me. I dont know what to do or where to turn Im the baby girl (25yrs) I feel like my dad worked all his life got the house he wanted and now his biological kids have no part in it. Please tell me what to do.

First, you need to thoroughly investigate what assets, if any, are still in your father's name or step-mother's name. You also need to check if any Surrogate's Court proceedings were ever brought for your father's estate or your step-mother's estate. If any assets are still legally in your father's name, you can probate or administer the estate in Surrogate Court to take control of those assets.
